This tour features off-the-beaten-path temples, away from the most poplular Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. We will visit Kpal Spean, an Angkor ruin located in the western part of the Kulen Mountain, 45 kms from town, and Banteay Srei temple, the Citadel of Women with its very attractive carvings. The next day we drive to Preah Vihear Temple, a temple stunningly situated on top a 525-metre cliff in the Dângrêk Mountains in Cambodia, near the northeastern  border of Thailand and Cambodia. And finally, a day tour of the countryside and Tonle Sap Lake contributes to offer you a whole picture of the Siem Reap history and local culture.

ITINERARY

Banteay Srei – Kbal Spean – Preah Vihear – Countryside & Tonle Sap Lake

Day 1/ Arrival Siem Reap
Upon your arrival at the airport, welcome by tour guide eand transfer to hotel for check in. Free for your own activities.

Day 2/ Siem Reap – Kbal Spean – Banteay Srei (B,L)
After breakfast, guide will pick up at hotel to visit the Kbal Spean – an Angkor ruin located in the western part of the Kulen Mountain. This site consists of a series of stone carvings in sandstone formations carved in the river bed of the Siem Reap River. The carvings take form of linga, the phallic representation of Hindu God, Shiva and there is said to be a thousand of these lingas on the riverbed making it a “river of 1000 lingas”. The belief is that the lingas “fertilize” the water that feed the East Baray and irrigates the rice fields. After lunch we visit Banteay Srei temple, the Citadel of Women with its very attractive carvings. Transfer back to hotel.

Day 3/ Siem Reap – Preah Vihear – Siem Reap (B)
Today we drive to Preah Vihear Temple, a temple stunningly situated on top a 525-metre cliff in the Dângrêk Mountains in Cambodia, near the northeastern  border of Thailand and Cambodia. Preah Vihear is perched on a hilltop with a commanding view of its surroundings. Predating Angkor Wat  by 100 years, the history of the temple/fortress is somewhat unclear, but it is known to be dedicated to the god Shiva and thought to have been constructed in the reign of Suryavarman I (1002-50), with further significant additions by Suryavarman II (1113-50). Unlike most Khmer temples, the temple is constructed on a long north-south axis, instead of the usual rectangular plan facing east. Back to Siem Reap for overnight.

Day 4/ Countryside tour and Tonle Sap Lake (B,L)
We drive head to the beautiful countryside to a remote village off town. Visit villages animated by amazing rural activities, get riding oxcart and have fun then. Experience an authentic country life by practice unique activities such as crop harvesting/planting or making roof panels by using palm leaves or thatch, and enjoy cooking and lunch. Then visit the local school and Buddhist monastery.

Next, we visit Mechrey village, one of the floating communities located at the edge of Tone Sap Lake away from Siem Reap town about 25km. Amazing lives on lake and fishing activities are so wonderful that drive it attractive, curious and to be explored. Taking a boat ride to to explore how the floating village people live and work. Return to your hotel and free at leisure.

Day 5/ Siem Reap – Departure (B)
Breakfast at hotel. Normal check-out by noon. Transfer to the airport for departure flight.
